The Culminis Compass - July  2004

Maximizing Marketing through User Groups
Culminis promotes collaboration of efforts to improve User Groups, IT professionals, and their communities. The following letter was submitted to Culminis by Bruce Handley, the President of the Rocky Mountain Windows Technology User Group, and the Culminis team would like to share what Mr. Handley had to say:

"In late June I gave a talk to the Boulder Marketing Group about the care and feeding of User Groups in general.  Their interest was marketing to user group members. In general I feel that a good mix of vendors (as long as we get good technical content) and member presentations is most beneficial. Sponsors also provide more than half of our budget at RMWTUG.

In my real life, my company sells membership and conference

registration software packages so we talked about how a good tracking system can make you job easier (particularly if it is a volunteer effort)

"I focused on my user group, RMWTUG, another Culminis
user group, ASNP, a “business contact group”, the Internet Chamber of Commerce, and briefly described what Culminis is doing (or plans to do).

"I put both my slides and the ASNP/ Culminis slides on our membership software site, http://clientminder.us/. Click on the PRESENTATIONS selection at the bottom of the page.

"Happy User Grouping!"

Bruce Handley
President, Rocky Mountain Windows Technology User Group
